The Lake George Winter Carnival is one of our favorite family-friendly festivals throughout the year. Every February, we celebrate winter all month-long with activities and events. Children’s arts and crafts are held daily at Shepard Park, as well as pony rides and s’mores in the park. This winter also brings ice castles where the kiddos can explore crawl tunnels, ice slides, and ice mazes.

Kid-Friendly Indoor Activities

When the weather gets too chilly to stay outside, head inside for family fun at Lake George Lanes & Games. Spend an afternoon bowling together, and then let the adventure continue with laser tag, arcade games, and an indoor playground.

Make the short drive to Queensbury for various indoor attractions for your family winter vacation. Go ice skating on the frozen surface of Lake George or at the public rink at Gurney Lane Recreation Area. If you want to glide on the ice away from the cold, check out the indoor rink at Glen Falls Recreation Center.
The ice castles are a must-see for anyone visiting the area between January and March. When the ice castles are sculpted, you will be able to crawl through tunnels and sit upon icy thrones.

Gore Mountain

Gore Mountain provides the most extensive trail network in New York, with 14 lifts and 110 trails to explore. There are seven mountain areas open for skiers ranging from easy to expert so that anyone can enjoy a day of skiing. Adirondack Waterfalls Near Lake George, NY

This 70-foot cascade is a prominent feature that stands in a seemingly open area lined with trees. This torrent stands out in the fall, so be sure to bring your camera if you happen to be visiting during autumn.

Mossy Cascade Brook Falls

Led by a 1.6-mile round trip, the Mossy Cascade hike brings you through a lush forest laden with moss-covered rocky outcrops and towering granite walls, quickly showing visitors how its name was chosen. Before you reach the primary falls, a smaller eight-foot waterfall creates a small pool and an excellent photo opportunity. There are a few obstacles along the way if you’re hoping to reach the base of the main waterfall, but it can be avoided by following the trail on the right side for a birds-eye view.

Groff Creek Falls

Made up of a series of three connecting falls along the Groff Creek, this Adirondack waterfall rewards patrons for their efforts. First, you’ll make a 1.8-mile hike to the top of the cascades. Even at 30 feet high, the waterfall’s apex can be heard from over a mile and a half away. Make your way down for a better look and follow the steam to reach the other two, which both will require more hiking.
