Every fall, visitors come to experience the incredible fall foliage in Lake George, NY. Starting in late September and peaking around mid to late October, the colors last only a short window, and you won’t want to miss it. Plan your trip with Surfside on the Lake and stay directly on the shores of Lake George. Soak in the views from our relaxation deck, take our kayaks out for a paddling adventure, and enjoy a fall picnic on our lawn. Then walk to the Village, hike up a mountain, or bike through the forests. There are endless ways to take in the season around the lake.
1. Prospect Mountain
Prospect Mountain offers some of the best fall color in the region. Pick up the trail off Smith Street and hike to the summit, or skip the climb and drive to the top via the Veterans Memorial Highway. The trail is relatively steep, so the highway is a good option if you want the scenery without the effort. However you get there, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the lake and Adirondack Mountains, all framed by brilliant fall color.
2. Lake George Village
Head to Lake George Village for an easy, relaxed leaf-peeping outing moments from our hotel. Stroll along the waterfront at Shepard Park and watch shades of gold, orange, and red reflect on the water. Explore the rich history of Fort William Henry on a crisp fall day surrounded by vibrant trees, or see the colors from the water with the Lake George Steamboat Company.
3. Warren County Bikeway and Glens Falls
Rent a bike for the day and explore the Warren County Bikeway, a paved nine-mile path connecting Lake George and Glens Falls. The route is flat and easy, so you can soak in the crisp autumn air and colorful views in every direction. Ride all the way to Glens Falls and you’ll find even more scenery at Crandall Park and Cole’s Woods.
4. Gore Mountain
Gore Mountain is one of the best places to see fall foliage in the Lake George region and the Southern Adirondacks. Drive to this popular ski resort and ride the Northwoods Gondola to the summit, taking in the colorful trees along the way. At the top, linger at the lookouts or pick up one of the many hiking trails that start from the summit.
5. Buck Mountain
For a challenging, rewarding hike, drive to Buck Mountain on the east side of Lake George. The six-mile out-and-back route takes you through wooded stretches and steep, rocky pitches before opening up to summit views. When you’re done, you’re a short drive from other incredible hikes like Shelving Rock Falls and Sleeping Beauty Mountain.
